AI usage allowance

Every plan includes a monthly AI usage allowance: how much AI work your organization can do each month. It covers description generation, the ontology generator, relationship suggestions, the Data Agent and the other AI features. This page explains how the allowance is measured, what happens as you use it up, and how usage packs add more.

How the allowance works

  • The allowance runs by calendar month. A fresh allowance starts automatically at the beginning of each month.
  • The AI usage card on Billing & Plan shows how much you’ve used as a percentage, and the date it resets. It doesn’t show raw counts.
  • More capable models use more of the allowance. A quick request to a small model barely moves the meter. A long answer from the most powerful model uses a bigger share. Two organizations doing the same number of operations can land at different percentages.
  • Your plan sets the size: Team is standard, Business is five times that, and a trial is half. See Plans and pricing.
  • An unused allowance doesn’t carry over to the next month. Usage packs do.

At 80%

  • The card turns amber and warns: “You’ve used over 80% of this period’s AI usage. New AI operations pause at 100% — buy a usage pack or upgrade to keep going.”
  • Kenseme emails your organization’s admins, once per month.

At 100%

  • New AI work stops. Kenseme checks before a job starts, so you’re told at the start rather than part-way through. The message reads “Monthly AI usage allowance exhausted — buy a usage pack or upgrade your plan.”
  • Work already running can finish. A job that is already under way may go a little past 100%. If it goes well past, it stops. Long generation jobs then report how far they got.
  • Kenseme emails your organization’s admins again.
  • Everything else keeps working. Reading, editing and non-AI features aren’t affected.

Note: A read-only organization can’t start new AI work either, whatever its usage. See Account states and read-only mode.

Top up with a usage pack

A usage pack is extra AI usage you buy once. It sits on top of your plan:

  • Your monthly allowance is always used first. The pack is used after the allowance runs out.
  • An unused pack balance rolls over from month to month until it’s used.

There are three sizes, all bought from Billing & Plan:

Larger packs cost less for the same amount of AI work. The dialog shows each pack’s size against your plan’s allowance, for example “≈ 5× your monthly allowance”, and always shows the current price before you pay.

Buy a pack

  1. Go to Settings › Billing & Plan.
  2. On the AI usage card, click Buy usage pack.
  3. Choose Small, Medium or Large. Medium is selected by default.
  4. Click Checkout — $<price> and pay on the secure checkout page.

You return to Billing & Plan. The pack appears within moments, once the payment is confirmed.

While you hold a pack, the AI usage card shows your reserve relative to a month, for example “+40% of a month in reserve” or “+2.5 months in reserve”.

The other way forward: upgrade

If you run out often, a bigger plan may cost less than regular packs. Business includes five times Team’s allowance. See Manage your plan and billing.

Who sees the detail

The AI usage card shows percentages only. Kenseme site administrators can see a per-model breakdown with cost estimates. Ask them if you need that detail.
