Create attribute groups

An attribute group bundles related attributes, such as everything your governance team tracks. Groups are the unit you assign: a schema, glossary, ontology, or the Processes area takes a whole group, never a single attribute.

In the app: Governance › Attributes

Before you start

  • Your organization must not be in read-only mode.
  • Plan your groups around who fills them in and where. A “Governance” group for stewards and a “Data Quality” group for engineers are easier to assign than one group with everything.

Create a group

  1. Go to Governance › Attributes.
  2. Click New Group. If there are no groups yet, click Create First Group.
  3. Enter a Name (required, up to 200 characters), for example Governance.
  4. Optionally add a Description of what the group is for.
  5. Click Create.

The group appears as a card with a 0 attributes badge. Add attributes to it next. See Create attribute definitions.

Work with a group’s card

Each group card shows its name, attribute count, and description. Click the arrow to collapse or expand it. The icons on the right are:

Icon What it does
+ (Add Attribute) Adds an attribute to this group.
Pencil (Edit Group) Changes the name or description. Click Save Changes.
Trash (Delete Group) Deletes the group after you confirm.

Inside an expanded card, each attribute shows its data type and badges such as Required, Default: …, or Inactive. Hover over an attribute to see its edit and delete icons.

Reorder attributes

Drag an attribute by its handle and drop it on another attribute’s position. The new order saves immediately and is the order people see when they fill in values.

Inactive attributes can’t be dragged or used as drop targets.

Tip: Put the attributes people fill in most often, and the required ones, at the top.

Assign the group where it’s needed

A group does nothing until it’s assigned. Where you assign it depends on what should carry the values:

Delete a group

  1. Click the trash icon on the group’s card.
  2. Confirm Delete.

Warning: Deleting a group removes it and all of its attributes from every schema, glossary, ontology, and the Processes area that uses it. The values people entered stop showing. You can’t undo this from Kenseme. If you only want to retire one field, mark that attribute inactive instead. See Create attribute definitions.
