Industry Standards overview

Most industries already have agreed vocabularies: GS1 for products and supply chains, FIBO for finance, UN/CEFACT for trade. Kenseme ships with a curated library of these industry standards. You don’t upload or maintain the files. Your organization turns on the standards it builds against, and Kenseme can then search them, use them as context when an AI drafts an ontology, or import them as ontologies.

Why it matters

  • Don’t reinvent vocabulary. An ontology grounded in a published standard uses names and definitions your partners and regulators already recognise.
  • Faster modelling. Import the part of a standard you need instead of drafting it from scratch.
  • Traceable choices. When the AI generator uses a standard, it searches the standard’s own entries and can cite them.

What’s in the library

The library covers standards such as GS1, FIBO (the Financial Industry Business Ontology), UN/CEFACT, Microsoft ADRM and CDM, and UNSPSC, among others. The Standards page lists every standard available to you, with these columns:

Column What it shows
Name The standard’s name and code, with a short description of what it covers underneath. Hover over the description to read all of it.
Layer The kind of standard it is.
Vertical The industry it serves, if it’s industry-specific.
Current Version The version Kenseme carries.
License The standard’s license.
Enabled Whether your organization uses it.

Summaries and outlines

So you know what a standard is for before you search it, Kenseme writes an AI summary of each standard’s current version when it loads the standard, plus a concept outline of its main areas.

  • The summary is the description you see under each standard’s name. If a standard hasn’t been summarized yet, you see the description from the catalog instead.
  • The outline isn’t shown in the app. It’s handed to the ontology generator, together with the summary, so the agent knows what a standard covers before it starts searching it.

Who can use it

Access is controlled in two layers.

  1. The Industry Standards feature must be on for your organization. It’s included in the Enterprise plan, and a site administrator can turn it on for other organizations. Until it’s on, the Standards page says “Industry Standards is not enabled for this organization.” See Feature flags and Manage your plan and billing.
  2. Each standard is enabled on its own. An organization administrator turns on the specific standards the organization builds against. Only enabled standards can be searched, used as generator sources, or imported.

Admins only: The Standards page opens only for organization administrators. Other members can use enabled standards inside the ontology generator and the New Ontology wizard, but can’t open the Standards page itself.

Enable a standard

  1. Go to Business Context › Standards.
  2. Turn on the Enabled switch for each standard your organization uses. The change saves immediately.

Enabling a standard affects only your organization. Turn the switch off to remove it from search and from the generator’s source list. You can’t change the switches while your organization is in read-only mode.
