FAQ: background jobs

Where do I find background jobs?

Organization admins open Settings › Organization Settings › Background Jobs. Schema imports are on the neighboring Schema Imports tab. Everyone sees running jobs in the In progress card on Home, and most jobs also show progress on the screen where you started them. See Where to watch background jobs.

I’m not an admin. Can I see my jobs?

Yes, on Home’s In progress card while they run, and on the screen where you started them. The full job list in Organization Settings is for organization admins.

What do the states mean?

  • Processing or Running: working.
  • Queued or Enqueued: waiting to start.
  • Succeeded or Completed: done.
  • Failed: stopped with an error; read the Message.

Schema imports can also be CompletedWithErrors or Cancelled. See Read a background job’s status.

Will closing the browser stop my job?

No. Jobs run on the server. Closing the browser or signing out doesn’t stop them.

How long do jobs stay in the list?

About 24 hours on the Background Jobs tab. Schema imports stay on Schema Imports. The job’s results stay wherever the job put them.

Can I cancel a job?

Some. Schema imports, imports from a database connection, SQL object analysis, and star schema builds can be stopped from their own screens. Others run to the end. See Cancel a running job.

Does Kenseme retry failed jobs?

A few jobs retry once or twice for temporary problems. Most user-started jobs don’t, because a failure usually needs a decision from you first. Fix the cause and start the job again. See Recover from a failed job.

My job seems stuck. What should I do?

Check Last Updated. If it hasn’t changed for more than ten minutes, see Troubleshooting a background job.

Why are AI description jobs slow on big schemas?

Each object is a separate AI request, so time adds up with the number of objects. Running smaller selections finishes each batch sooner.

Do AI jobs use my AI allowance?

Yes. Every AI job draws on the organization’s monthly AI usage allowance. If the allowance runs out, AI jobs fail until it’s topped up. See AI usage allowance.
